What is Sea Grant?

Sea Grant is a national network comprised of 30 Sea Grant programs based at flagship universities in coastal and Great Lake states throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The National Sea Grant College Program encourages the wise stewardship of our marine resources through research, education, outreach and technology transfer. The Program is focused on making the United States the world leader in marine research and the sustainable development of marine resources.

Our Mission: Connecticut Sea Grant will work towards achieving healthy coastal and marine ecosystems and consequent public benefits by supporting integrated locally and nationally relevant research, outreach and education programs in partnership with stakeholders.

How is Connecticut Sea Grant Funded?

Connecticut Sea Grant (CTSG) is funded principally through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ( NOAA), with matching funds from the State of Connecticut, through the University of Connecticut.

The program has three foci: research, outreach, and education. Outreach efforts include the CTSG Extension Program, and its Communications Program. The program also has an administrative staff committed to promoting understanding of the Sea Grant mission.

Connecticut Sea Grant Research Program

The Connecticut Sea Grant Research Program supports the research activities of a number of talented scientists and marine-related industry members within the State through a competitive request for proposal (RFP) process.

Connecticut Sea Grant Extension Program

Extension professionals within the Connecticut Sea Grant Extension Program (SGEP) provide technology transfer to diverse marine resource users, outreach relating to coastal and marine issues, and applications of recent technological advances to aid coastal and maritime industries. The SGEP focuses on areas including aquaculture, aquatic nuisance species, fisheries, seafood safety, safety at sea, and water quality.
