As a Senior Extension Educator with UConn Extension, she offers seafood safety training courses for processors, and contributes to ongoing initiatives in shellfish, seaweed culture, storm risk communication and marine spatial planning.

Bruce Hyde is an UConn Extension Educator primarily responsible for coordinating the Land Use Academy and working with municipalities on climate adaptation issues. Prior to his UConn appointment he worked for municipal governments and consultants in Connecticut and Vermont. He has a BS in Economics from Lehigh University and an MS in the Economics of Natural Resource Planning from the University of Vermont.

Jennifer H. Mattei
Dr. Jennifer Mattei, Professor, Department of Biology at Sacred Heart University, has a wide range of interests in population ecology, restoration, and conservation, with over 22 years of experience working in coastal ecosystems. After completing her a Master’s of Forest Science at Yale, a Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolution at SUNY, Stony Brook, Mattei was a post-doc at Rutgers University where she was part of a team of scientists to be the first to successfully restore coastal woody shrub habitats on top of closed sections of the largest landfill in the US. Dr. Mattei’s current research, which she will discuss at the conference, is being supported by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation, CT In-lieu-fee program and DuPont Corporation titled Stratford Point Living Shoreline: Restoring Coastal Habitats to Maintain Resiliency and Function includes installing an artificial reef, saltmarsh, upland dune mosaic, several acres of pollinator meadow and upland coastal forest habitat See more here.

Jen West
Jennifer West has been the Coastal Training Program Coordinator with the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve since 2005. Her primary responsibility is the development and delivery of training events and technical assistance programs for municipal officials and other decision-maker audiences on topics related to water quality, habitat protection, and climate change. She is an active member of the National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) network, serving as a New England regional leader and facilitating numerous workshops and presentations on strategic framing. She also provides facilitation assistance to a variety of groups, from municipal advisory committees vetting and adopting new zoning ordinances to strategic planning for conservation groups. Jennifer has conducted numerous needs assessments, market analyses, and program evaluations and has expertise in planning and implementing collaborative methods and stakeholder engagement and facilitation techniques. Jennifer has a MS in Environmental Sciences from the University of Rhode Island and a BS in Environmental Biology from the State University of New York College at Oneonta.
