Judy Benson earned a Masters in Science in Natural Resources at UConn in 2015 and a B.A. in Journalism at UCONN in 1983. She was Health-Environment reporter and staff writer/editor for The Day newspaper in New London, Connecticut from 2003 to present, and has been involved in journalism and freelance writing since 1985. She is no stranger to Sea Grant, having written about many of our program’s activities in the past. Judy wrote daily and in-depth articles about local, statewide and national environmental, energy and health care topics, including issues pertaining to Long Island Sound, rising sea levels and climate change, the Millstone Power Station, local hospitals and conservation efforts. Judy won first place for environmental reporting in the New England Better Newspaper Competition in 2015, 2010, 2009 and 2008, and was named New England Press Association Journalist of the Year in 2006.
