Field-based ecology teacher workshop planned for May 8

First page of flier for "Field-Based Ecology Along Long Island Sound" teacher workshop“Field-Based Ecology Along Long Island Sound,” a one-day, field-based ecology workshop at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 8, with a rain date of May 9.

The workshop, led by Long Island Sound Mentor Teachers Amber Neary and Jill Blasi, will engage educators in hands-on investigations in both the rocky intertidal zone and salt marsh ecosystems. It is designed for grades 6–12 and is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards GSS practices, with a strong emphasis on biodiversity, food webs, adaptations, invasive species, keystone species and human impact.

Participants will take part in ready-to-use field investigations, collaborate with fellow educators, and leave with classroom resources that can be directly implemented. Materials and raffle items to support classroom instruction will be provided.
