Resilience field trips and workshops will be offered on Sept. 16 at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison and on Oct. 2 at West Haven Town Hall, Eco Park and other locations.
At Hammonasset, participants will learn about one of Connecticut’s largest coastal resilience and salt marsh restoration initiatives. The day will begin at the Meigs Point Nature Center with presentations from Audubon Connecticut. Speakers at the Sept. 16 workshop will share the science behind the restoration effort, discuss the challenges facing the park’s tidal marshes and provide updates on designs for marsh restoration, living shoreline and culvert replacement projects. After lunch and group discussions, participants will take a guided walk to view the marsh and then drive to some of the culverts that will be replaced.

In West Haven, participants will see coastal resilience projects in action across the city. Local practitioners will talk about project history, funding and lessons learned. A shuttle will take the group to tour complete, ongoing and planned projects, including the West Haven Eco Park, Beach Street elevation and Cove River restoration projects.
