CTSG seeks temporary specialist for aquaculture program

Connecticut Sea Grant is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Temporary University Specialist. Under the direction of the Senior Extension Educator for Aquaculture, the Temporary University Specialist will provide administrative support to the Sea Grant aquaculture extension team/program. The position will be housed in the Sea Grant Office within the Lowell B. Weicker Jr. Marine Sciences Building, UConn-Avery Point in Groton, although some of the work can be completed remotely.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative support to the Connecticut Sea Grant Aquaculture Extension team in the planning and implementation of outreach and training programs and activities.
  • Develop and organize content for outreach presentations, trainings, publications, websites, and map servers
  • Assist in the planning, managing, and evaluation of outreach events and trainings
  • Respond to stakeholder requests for basic aquaculture information
  • Participate in weekly meetings (virtual or in-person as needed) with Senior Extension Educator
  • Assist with other programs or activities as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine science or related environmental science degree
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to skillfully multi-task
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in:
    • Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Website Content Management Systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge and proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS desktop and online geographic information system software

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 30-35 hours per week, temporary position with the expected initial appointment to start as soon as possible for six months, with the possibility of extending to a later date. The hours may include occasional evening or weekend commitments; mileage to any non-Avery Point locations will be reimbursed in accordance with UConn Travel rules. The hourly rate is $28/hour. Individuals hired on Special Payroll do not receive benefits, although they may purchase medical coverage at group rates. Minimal parking fees are incurred at all UConn campuses.
