2023 undergraduate fellows to focus on plastics, sea scallops

Big challenges don’t scare Myalia Durno and Brendon Goulette, recipients of CTSG Undergraduate Research Fellowships. This summer, after finishing the spring semesters at their respective colleges, Durno and Goulette will delve into two of the most complex problems facing the marine environment.

CT NERR celebrated as place ‘where the magic happens’

Tidal marshes, sea grass meadows, barrier beaches and coastal forests are just some of the habitats in the federally designated reserve of Southeastern Connecticut lands and waterways that will open a wealth of opportunities for public access, hands-on environmental education, research and stewardship.

National Estuarine Reserve celebration set for May 21

UConn is joining with partners at the local, federal and state levels including CT Sea Grant to celebrate the establishment of the Connecticut National Estuarine Research Reserve. The event will take place at 11 a.m. on May 21 at the Avery Point campus, where the CT NERR will be headquartered.

Promotion spotlights Syma Ebbin’s interdisciplinary pursuits

On Earth Day a few weeks ago, Syma Ebbin reflected on how science and nature poetry can work in symbiosis, with each informing and magnifying the message of the other. The presentation encapsulated many of the reasons Ebbin excells in her job at CTSG and UConn, where she was recently promoted.
